It’s very important to recognize that you have a injury whilst you are running before it becomes worse. Here are a few things that can help you out.

Symptoms of a Pulled Hamstring Muscle

Hamstring Muscle is in of the muscles on the back of your leg that is responsible for you being able to walk, run, jump, and every other thing that you get to do with your leg. Most of the time it is one of the few muscle that commonly gets injured. Hamstring muscle injuries are easy to revitalize, you just need a little bit of patience and diligence, but before you use up all your patience the first thing you need to do would be to know what are the signs and symptoms of a pulled hamstring muscle. A pulled hamstring muscle will have a sudden sharp pain at the back of your leg during exercise or walking, this is one of the first few symptoms that appear. Pain on the stretching muscle of course is evident. Also there is swelling and bruising on the muscle. If you do feel these symptoms then you definitely have a pulled hamstring muscle, then you may now start your exercises.

Shoes to Prevent Shin Splints

Shin splints are very much common among athletes and there are many ways to prevent the occurrence of such injury. One of the best ways to prevent shin splints would be to get the right type of shoes for shin splints. Since we are now talking about shoes, what are the best running shoes for shin splints. Actually the best running shoes for shin splints would usually vary according to the user. Since almost each and every one of us has a different anatomy and bone structure. One thing is for sure though, when you are talking about these types of shoes you must be aware that comfort must be taken into consideration. Usually shin splints occur because of two processes, overpronation and underpronation. For overpronation the best shoe would be ASICS 2150, and for underpronation the best shoes recommended would be ASICS nimbus. If you seem unfamiliar with these shoes then you can find them in the internet.

Muscle Cramp Treatment

Muscle cramps are indeed very painful and it can definitely wake you up in the middle of the night. Muscle cramps are divided into different categories and each category is defined according to the cause of the cramps. Hence, to be able to get muscle cramp treatment, it is necessary to be knowledgeable on the different causes of muscle cramps. In general, basic treatment for muscle cramps include proper hydration by drinking lots of water to avoid fluid loss. Also, before partaking into a rigorous physical activity, make sure to stretch and warm up muscles first. Typically, skeletal muscle spasms, which are the most common type of muscle cramp, are abrupt yet painful. To cut the spasm, just stretch the affected part gently. However, if there is a recurrence of muscles spasms for several days that usually lasts for several minutes, there could be an underlying cause that you need to check it out with a doctor.

Exercise induced asthma is exactly what it sounds like: asthma that is triggered by exercise. It is not uncommon for people who have exercise induced asthma to have an asthma attack within twenty minutes of commencing exercise, or even after completing a short spurt of exercise. Fortunately, if you suffer from exercise induced asthma, the condition does not have to equal a life-long restriction on physical activity. There are ways you can stay active and get the exercise your body needs, even if you suffer from this condition. The trick is in understanding as much as possible about exercise induced asthma, and finding creative ways to live a productive life. Here are some suggestions:

Medications. You may take an asthma medication before you commence to exercise in order to prevent asthma symptoms from developing either during or after your workout. Common anti-asthma medications include Albuteral and cromolyn sodium (brand names Tilade or Intal, for example). These medications are generally delivered through a bronchodilator, or inhaler, and should be taken ten to fifteen minutes before you begin exercising. As far as ongoing treatment and prevention goes, corticosteroids may be used on a daily basis to keep asthma symptoms at bay, as may beta-2 agonists like Foradil and Serevent.

Asthma management. If you take measures to manage asthma even when you are not exercising, then you will be less likely to have an asthma attack during physical activity. Preventative management involves avoiding common asthma attack triggers, such as allergens like dust, pollen, and pet dander, and extreme weather conditions. Exercising the right way. As previously mentioned, having exercise induced asthma does not mean that you have to avoid exercise altogether. The trick to exercising when you have this condition is to exercise the right way.

What does this mean? First of all, give your body plenty of warm-up time before you begin rigorous physical activity, and then plenty of cool-down time after you complete a workout session. The idea is to ease your body into the elevated heart rate and breathing that comes with strenuous activity, and then to ease your body out of it, so that you are less likely to have an asthma attack. Also, avoid exercising in environments that have known allergens, and exercise only in mild weather (or indoors, for optimal temperature control).

When to avoid exercising. Infections of any sort make you more susceptible to developing asthma attacks. Therefore, if you are sick, you should avoid exercising until you are healthy again. It is not macho or cool to exercise when you are sick – especially if it means aggravating another serious health condition. Take some time off and you’ll be able to get back to your normal fitness routine sooner than you probably imagine.

As you can see, it is possible to exercise if you have exercise induced asthma. It is actually recommended, as everybody knows that the body needs physical activity to stay healthy. Follow these tips for safe exercising with exercise induced asthma.

About the Author: Beata Delcarlo has exercise induced asthma and has spent a lot of time tweaking her diet and exercise routines to keep her symptoms at bay. She currently works with a dietitian, candida doctor, and acupuncturist to keep herself in great shape.

Most body pain can be easily treated and will disappear in a while, but if you know something about pinched nerves, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that I had to bear the pain for several months. The injury was located on my neck but the pain would radiate down to my right shoulder. Sometimes my whole right arm would feel weak and I would find it difficult to move it. Luckily pinched nerves do heal over time although there is no cure that can fix it right away, and I learned a few remedies I found very helpful in easing the pain and numbness that the pinched nerve caused.

Perform neck exercises daily.

My first impulse when I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve in the neck was to avoid moving it as much as possible. However, my doctor informed me that although I should avoid doing repetitive and sudden movements with my neck, slow and relaxing motions can be a very helpful treatment for pinched nerve in neck. The exercises are very easy to do, consisting of the slow head twists and neck bends you do when warming up. I do the exercises at least once a day, and they are especially relaxing to do right before going to bed.

Switch to a different pillow.

I was fond of soft, limp pillows until my doctor told me that old pillows won’t provide enough support for my neck, which can make the pain worse at night. So I switched to a different pillow, one that offered gentle yet firm support on my neck, and right away I noticed that the pain wouldn’t build as much at night and I started sleeping soundly again.

Massage the neck and shoulder yourself.

I used to go for regular deep tissue massages because I found them very relaxing, but I found out that the firm pressure, although great for sore muscles, might be too much for a pinched nerve. So I focused on massaging myself instead, using gentle, light strokes. Massaging the back of my neck in particular felt very soothing, easing the pain and making me feel very relaxed and calm.

Apply an ice compress.

Sometimes the pinched nerve pain would get really intense, especially when I was feeling particularly tired or stressed. Taking a higher dose of painkillers wouldn’t be safe, so I turned to the natural yet very effective remedy of ice packs. Carrying around an ice pack bag around was too troublesome, so instead I brought a towel or bandanna with me, which I then wrapped around three to four ice cubes. Ice packs can be used on other injuries too, from stiff neck and even to a pinched nerve hip, and they also don’t cost anything at all.

These four steps all helped me in the months while I was recovering from the pinched nerve neck, but since each case is different, you may need to follow only one or two of these remedies and others suggested by your doctors to ease discomfort.

Anxiety is a known causative factor for weight loss as it gives negative physical and mental effects on the body and the person’s well-being. An abnormal weight loss in adults may lead to increased infection rates, muscle wasting, and even depression. It is but normal that anxiety is the first line when it comes to stress response. It is the body’s defense mechanism in order to escape or confront danger, which is on a short term basis. The feeling of anxiety will not be any more helpful when it is constant and ongoing because it may lead to certain physical illnesses or serious medical conditions.

There are times in our lives that we cannot evade stress. Some of the stress that a person is experiencing may be quite normal, but the persistent occurrence of stress in a day to day basis may lead to drastic depression. The most critical indicators of depression include irritability, loss of appetite, anxiety and isolation. Weight loss might take place due to anxiety and stress because the person tends to sleep and eat less due to other bothering symptoms of anxiety.

When a person loses weight because of stress, it can be called stress-induced weight loss. There are many reasons why a person is stressed out, and that could bring about unexplained weight loss. Due to some causes of stress, such as job issues, family or home problems, money issues and relationships, the mind and the body is affected. It will result to taking your mind off your healthy eating habits because you usually just don’t feel like eating. This may worsen the symptoms because poor eating habits could actually result to abdominal cramps and discomfort, and it may also cause irritable bowel syndrome. Other health issues like missed menstrual periods, nutritional deficiencies, weakness, and fatigue, among others, are likely to occur.

Even though it is a fact that weight loss is yearned for by a lot of people, you have to remember that stress-induced weight loss is not a healthy way to go about it. It is also a fact that all signs and symptoms of stress must not be ignored, including weight loss. As the mind and body cannot adapt and cope up with stress, it could significantly affect the person’s body and welfare, which may then lead to serious complications.

Managing stress and eliminating the causes are among the best solutions to prevent stress-induced weight loss from happening. The recommended strategies to deal with stress are to follow the four A’s, namely avoid, alter, accept and adapt. A person must learn to avoid the stressful stimuli, alter the stress as much as possible, accept the things that you cannot change, and then adapt to it by changing first your mindset. This way, it will prevent you from having stress-induced weight loss and also give you more control over the troubles that anxiety and stress bring. Some people may think that it’s an excellent chance to lose weight, but just imagine how ghastly it will look if you shed unwanted pounds due to all the suffering from anxiety. It’s not going to be pretty.

For those who are determined in their practice of yoga, things such as concentration and balance can be demonstrated to them in an entertaining and accessible method. Gradually, yoga practitioners begin noticing transformations in their entire system. These include a greater sense of strength as well as flexibility. A healthy training routine ought to make you far more stronger than you were in the past. What’s more, yoga can even help cure certain chronic ailments if performed regularly. More often than not, it does not seriously matter how qualified or knowledgeable you are in the field of yoga to begin with.

With a knowledgeable guru, an invigorating yet relaxing environment, and a favourable mentality towards life in general, you can make a great deal of progress in your yoga for beginners session.

If your limbs feel cramped most of the time and seem like they could use some good stretching, there is probably an appropriate type of yoga for you. What is yoga and how can it help you?

Yoga is composed of different stretches and poses that serve to work out your entire body. Deep breathing assists you in your movements. For bodies that rarely experience exercise, this routine will feel fabulous. It will probably be painful at first, but as soon as you have adjusted and caught on to the flow, you will love how your body is responding. You will notice that your flexibility and coordination are improving, and your balance is getting better.

Overall, your physical endurance will also be enhanced as your deep breathing encourages your lungs to work harder. You will also experience a deep sense of relaxation, freeing your mind from all its stresses and worries. What is yoga? It is the ultimate mind and body workout.

Additionally, emotions that are stress-related, like anxiety, can take place even among healthy people. The hunt for preventive measures boosted the interest in exercising as an adjunct or alternative to conventional treatments, like medication and psychotherapy. Anxiety is referred to the sudden occurrence of negative symptoms like self-doubt, worry, and apprehension, just to name a few.

On the other hand, depression is a common problem these days. Approximately 2–5% of the American population every year is affected by clinical depression. It’s even estimated that those who suffer from depression account for 6–8% of general medical practices.

Also, depression is a pricey disorder. Patients suffering from clinical depression spend 1.5 times more on their health care every year as compared to healthy people. Patients who are treating their disorder with antidepressants shell out 3 times more on outpatient pharmacy bills as compared to people who are not on medication. Such costs caused an increase in governmental pressure so that they would reduce costs for health care in the U.S. If effective and available, alternative and affordable forms of therapy which don’t come with negative side effects must be incorporated into the treatment. Exercising has been proposed as an adjunct or alternative to more conventional means of treating depression.

The studies regarding depression and anxiety have a long history of researchers suggesting a link between the two. All the results almost always show that any forms of exercise are related to a decrease in depression. Generally, such effects take place in people who were categorized as non-depressed, clinically depressed, or mentally ill. The studies have shown that the antidepressant effects of exercising begin as soon as the exercise program starts and persist even after the end of the exercise plan. However, results have shown that exercising has antidepressant effects only for people who have mild to moderate depression.

Research has it that exercising lowers the levels of depression even more than relaxation techniques or doing pleasurable activities, but it didn’t yield effects that varied from those of psychotherapy. Studies found out that exercising could yield similar effects to those of behavioral interventions, psychotherapy, as well as social contact. Exercise utilized in addition to individual psychotherapy or drug therapy had the most massive impacts. Nevertheless, the effects did not considerably vary from the effects yielded by exercise alone. All these studies can be proof that exercise does not only have positive physical impacts, but they just prove that exercise can be extremely efficient in treating depression and anxiety, as well.

Unfortunately, there is no sure way of curing pinched nerves right away, and doctors will offer remedies that will relieve the symptoms but won’t immediately heal the injury. Remedies like pain-relieving medications and rest are important, but the other treatments for pinched nerves of the leg below may help you recover faster and get better pain relief.

Acupuncture
This treatment is not really for the faint-hearted, but once you see that the needles are incredibly thin and should draw little or no blood, you may consider it, especially since acupuncture has flourished for centuries already and are praised by the Chinese, Japanese, and even some Westerners who have benefited from its properties. Acupuncture uses the needles to regulate the flow of positive energy in the body, which will supposedly help injuries heal faster, thus easing the symptoms of pinched nerve leg. The needles won’t go deep enough in the legs to touch the nerves but will penetrate the skin and the muscle, and under the hands of an accomplished acupuncturist, you will be perfectly safe and may even get great pain relief as well as stimulation of the nerves so that you can heal faster.

Electric stimulation devices
Small charges of electricity are applied to the body that will supposedly trigger relaxation in the muscles, which can ease them from pinching nerves. Sometimes the electronic treatment can also cause the nerves themselves to start repairing faster too. For safety and the best results, consult a technician in a hospital or clinic, for trying your hand at personal electric devices can be risky since you may not know the correct settings or the ideal places in the leg to set the currents.

Physical therapy
Most people wouldn’t think twice of hiring a trainer to help them exercise, so you shouldn’t hesitate to ask for the services of a physical therapist to help you get over pinched nerves in the leg. Physical therapy is commonly done to ease a pinched nerve in back, although it can just be as effective for the legs. If a therapist is well trained in treating pinched nerves, then he or she can help you on the massages, exercises, stretches, poses, and correct improvements on your posture and way of moving around that will help you ease pinched nerve symptoms and prevent the injury from recurring in the future.

1. Ditch The Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are a huge problem if you’re trying to control your appetite. They don’t satisfy when you consume them and unfortunately, that’s just the tip of the problematic iceberg.

Consuming artificial sweeteners messes with the body’s signaling pathways that control hunger. At some point when you’re eating food, the brain will tell the body that you’ve eaten enough. There are a variety of ways this happens and one of those ways has to do with sugar. When the mouth senses something sweet, there’s a chain reaction that should start decreasing appetite. However, when there aren’t any calories for the body to process (which is the case when you consume artificial sweeteners), that chain reaction gets messed up. The body stops believing that it’s getting the food it needs when it tastes something sweet. In other words, the appetite control chain reaction stops working.

This obviously causes a lot of problems if you want to control your appetite. The reactions that tell your body that you have enough food don’t work properly and that leaves you wanting to eat everything in the world.

2. Ditch The Processed Sugars

Refined sugars create a nasty chain reaction of their own. When you eat or drink them, they cause the blood sugar to raise to excessive levels. When that happens, the body has to deal with them because high blood sugar is toxic to many organs and systems. The body solves this problem with an insulin response. Insulin lowers the levels of glucose in the blood. However, in many people, this system isn’t perfectly efficient. Blood glucose is lowered too much and this leaves the body thinking that it needs fuel. When the body thinks it needs fuel, appetite is stimulated.

While this process is an addictive, vicious one, it can be overcome by simply ditching the processed sugar. It will take a few days to feel normal as the body detoxes from the affects or processed sugar.

3. Ditch The Refined Grains

Refined grains can be equally nasty in stimulating the appetite. Many people are unaware that both processed sugar and refined grains eventually end up as glucose in the bloodstream. That means that eating 2,000 calories of pasta will have roughly the same effect on the body as eating 2,000 calories worth of cake.

Controlling your blood sugar is crucial if you want to control your appetite. If you want to learn more about this concept, click here.

There was a time when I didn’t believe that my appetite could be controlled. I was very wrong. My lack of control was caused by eating all the wrong foods. I wrecked the hormones in my body and my body fought against me. After I learned to give my body the foods it needs and wants, it fixed everything and my appetite calmed down. It became easy to eat right.

Whether you are an ectomorph, mesomorph or endomorph, understanding which somatotype you are is crucial to gaining the advantage when planning your exercise goals. Used by sports scientists and physiologists, somatotypes provide a useful way of assessing how your body is suited to different activities; determining the somatotype of professional sportsmen has been an intrinsic part of high level sports performance for many years and has helped countless sportsmen to achieve their sporting goals. Discovering your somatotype could help you focus your exercise routine on the particular needs of both your body and your sport, and by adjusting your exercise program accordingly you can lessen the number of injuries you might experience.

According to William Sheldon, the American psychologist who developed the theory of somatotypes, there are three basic types of body shape: ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. Each somatotype is characterised by certain physical characteristics, including metabolic rate and muscle mass. Ectomorphs, the first of the trinity, are thin, lightly built and long boned, the mesomorph somatotype, the second grouping, is recognisably athletic, with wide shoulders, narrow waists, and well muscled legs, and finally endomorphs, the final somatotype, are heavily built and have low metabolic rates.

According to the theory, the qualities are never perfectly present and therefore all people possess a combination of each type. A person is scored with respect to several factors in a range from one to seven, and the overall degree of each somatotype is added to a chart; for instance, a person with a prevalence of ectomorph traits would be scored 7-1-1, a mesomorph 1-7-1, and an ideal endomorph 1-1-7.

Athletes usually have a high mesomorph score with either ectomorph or endomorph as secondary traits. Weight lifters and wrestlers would usually conform to the endomorph/mesomorph pattern whilst a cross country runner or gymnast would typically be found to be mesomorph/ectomorph. A sumo wrestler would be extreme endomorph, a high jumper extreme ectomorph. So, even though the athletes may have similar levels of fitness, their physical shape and body type will influence their training needs and performance.

A somatochart is drawn up as part of the assessment process during which measurement of skin folds, bone size, height, limb circumference and body weight are all taken. Training options are then assessed according to the measurements.

To determine what body shape you have it is perhaps best to obtain a professional assessment by a sports and fitness professional. With the right guidance you will be able to interpreting your own somatochart and shape your exercise routine accordingly. Gaining the advantage at the next level of your sporting performance may simply be a case of learning which somatotype you are.
